This broadcast quality ribbon microphone cancels out ambient noise considerably and has been designed specifically for commentary in locations where the background noise level requires speaking very close to the microphone. It is a pressure gradient transducer unit with a high degree of acoustic attenuation, housed in a special body equipped with breath noise protectors. The speech distance must be precisely controlled to maintain the correct frequency response (avoid proximity effect variations) by means of positioning bars that are in contact with the commentator's upper lip. The microphone body, covered with brown enamel paint, is attached to a non-slip PVC-covered handle for a long grip. Noise reduction is partly achieved by the directionality and partly by the high low-pass filter characteristics of the ribbon unit's free-field response, which is optimised for flat near-field response. Speech quality is very good, mainly due to the good balance achieved between nose and mouth intonations, any deficiency in the latter provides a 'muffled' and unnatural speech quality.

Breathing protectors are made of corrosion resistant steel mesh and the microphones incorporate a high degree of protection against electromagnetic induction sources such as TV monitors.

The frequency response is 60-12000Hz and the impedance is 300ohms. Distortion is less than 1% at an SPL of 120dB. An XLR male 3-pin connector is integrated into the base of the microphone. Dimensions: 200(L) x 57(W) x 76(D). Weight: 283g.
