The AE5100 is designed for use in professional applications where remote power is available. It requires 11 V to 52 VDC phantom power, which can be supplied by a mixer or console, or by a separate in-line source, such as the Audio-Technica AT8801 or CP8506 four-channel phantom power supplies. The signal appears on pins 2 and 3; pin 1 is ground (shield). The output phase is "hot pin 2" - positive sound pressure produces a positive voltage at pin 2./To avoid phase cancellation and bad sound, all microphone cables should be wired consistently: pin 1 to pin 1, etc. A built-in 80 Hz high-pass filter makes it easy to switch from a flat frequency response to a low roll-off.
